After months of careful planning it was finally time for one of the most exciting parts of the renovation: Demo Day. It was really loud and dusty, but oh so exciting. Like my very own HGTV show (eek!). We still had to live in our house during the renovation which meant putting up sheets of plastic to keep the upper sleeping area and basement dust-free. Living through a renovation was actually not that bad until we hit the 3 month mark, but I’ll leave that to another post. Back to the living room….
I never thought we would find our dream home when we embarked on a home search almost 2 years ago. I had been searching for the “perfect” home, one that was in the right location, that we could afford, and that we could transform into something with a modern, Scandinavian feel. Given the prices of detached homes in our area (we live near Toronto) I felt it would be virtually impossible to accomplish. However, after neighbours in our freehold townhome complex decided to turn their entire front yard into a concrete slab, I decided enough was enough, we had to move.
This had to be one of my favourite parts of the renovation. I had no idea what to do with our entryway closet but I knew it had to look modern and you know, awesome.
I definitely wanted sliding doors and it was my husband Peter who suggested I check Ikea. I hadn’t realized I could buy the doors ONLY from their Pax wardrobe systems. For a time I did consider knocking the original closet down in favour of the entire pax wardrobe, mainly because we realized it was completely lopsided. But, for an entryway closet I preferred a large uninterrupted interior space, so we decided to keep the structure and do our best to straighten it out. Luckily for me Ikea was having their wardrobe sale, and after perusing the styles I selected the Farvik white glass sliding doors (59″ wide x 93″ high).
